Special Class Admissions 2026/2027

Our ASD Department

At Thomond Community College, we are proud to have a warm, supportive and inclusive Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Department. Since opening our first ASD class in 2014, we have continued to grow, adding a second in 2016 and a third in 2019. Each class is designed to provide students with the right balance of structure, encouragement and care to help them thrive in their own unique way.

On Friday, September 13th, 2024, Minister Norma Foley officially opened our brand-new, state-of-the-art ASD building. This wonderful new space was created with our students in mind and includes:

  • Two dedicated ASD classrooms
  • A breakout area for calm and focus
  • A sensory room
  • A Cubbie (immersive multi-sensory space)
  • Modern toilet facilities

These facilities provide a safe and welcoming environment where students can grow academically, socially and emotionally.

How We Support Our Students

Our ASD team works closely with mainstream teachers to ensure that every student has the opportunity to take part in the wider school curriculum with the right supports in place. We believe in creating an environment where students feel valued, respected and included.

We focus not only on learning but also on building confidence, independence and life skills. Our goal is to help each student prepare for life beyond school, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in further education, employment, and everyday life.
