Dr. Niall Muldoon (Ombudsman for Children) visit

On Wednesday, 29th April, Thomond Community College had a very special visitor to the school. Dr. Niall Muldoon, the Ombudsman for Children, came to the school and met with staff and students. As part of this visit, Dr. Muldoon met with a representative group of the Student Council along with several senior cycle students from TY and 5th year. He spoke to them about his role as Ombudsman in protecting the rights of all children in Ireland as well as listening to the concerns of young people from across the country. He also met with a group of students who act as Ethos Ambassadors for the school. As such, they help promote the core values of care, respect, community, equality and excellence in education. In speaking with the Ethos Ambassadors, Dr. Muldoon heard about the various charitable actions that have taken place in Thomond Community College over the past year. During his visit, the Ombudsman was presented with a copy of the book ‘Historical Fiction’ created as part of the JCSP Library initiative, by one of the book’s authors, Caoimhe Collins, 1st Year. The visit was a great opportunity for students and staff to meet with the Ombudsman and to discuss issues relevant to all on matters of education and life in Ireland for children in the 21st century.
